White spots

As part of the Future of Pensions Act, it was decided that more workers should accrue pensions. This should reduce the problem of the white spot (workers without pension accrual). An adopted amendment by MPs Nijboer (PvdA) and Maatoug (GroenLinks) lowers the maximum entry age in pension schemes to 18 years. Another of their amendments stipulates that waiting periods after which you are admitted to the scheme are no longer allowed.

1. Entry age to 18 years

At present, the maximum entry age in the pension scheme is still 21 years. The entry age is now being lowered to 18 years. The aim is to allow people to accrue a pension from a younger age. This obligation will apply to all (existing and future) pension schemes from 01.01.2024. We will contact you to implement this in the pension scheme.

2.    No more waiting periods

Some pension schemes currently still have 'waiting periods' for participants. This means that, although an employee meets the conditions for joining the pension scheme, they do not yet become a participant. If the employee is still employed after the waiting period, they will accrue pension from the first day after the end of the waiting period. These waiting times will disappear in the new system.

Threshold periods, however, are still allowed. This is a period where the employee acquires pension entitlements retroactively – if still employed after the threshold period. This means that the employee still acquires a pension from day one. Our DC pension product Persoonlijk Pensioen Plan (PPP) has no waiting period and no threshold period.
